Grades 6-12 Return To In-Person Learning Beginning March 1st
Planning is underway for Marinette School District to transition grades 6-12 students back to an in-person learning model beginning March 1, 2021.Throughout the 2020-21 school year, administration has been closely monitoring internal and local data pertaining to COVID-19, as well as collaborating with local, county and medical experts. The district has been monitoring the potential to shift grades 6-12 students to in-person learning since the return from holiday break in January.

“We have been closely monitoring our internal data to see if we would see a spike in student or staff cases following our holiday break, but our data has just not reflected any increase in case activity,” Superintendent Lambie shared. “We know the best learning opportunity for our students is to have them in-person, in front of our talented staff. Based upon our current data and recent guidance from the CDC and Department of Health Services, as well as our consultation with medical experts, we feel confident in our ability to maintain a safe learning space for our students with strict adherence to our mitigating practices”.

Lambie shared the district has been using mitigating practices since the beginning of the school year, including use of facial coverings, physical distancing, symptom monitoring, frequent handwashing, proper cough etiquette, and cleaning and disinfecting on a regular basis.

The district plans to transition grades 6-12 students to four days per week of in-person learning beginning Monday, March 1, 2021. Wednesdays will continue to be a student support day through the 3rd term/quarter, allowing staff to connect and work with individual, small groups, and any potentially quarantined students. The four day in-person learning structure will be assessed for the 4th term/quarter. Additionally, students who are currently enrolled in the full-time At-Home Learning model will be allowed to remain in the learning model for the remainder of this school year, if they choose.  Grades 4K-5th have been in-person five days a week since the beginning of the school year, and will continue with the same structure for the remainder of the year.

“We acknowledge that this school year has been challenging for many. As we have navigated this unique school year, our focus has been, and will continue to be, providing a safe and effective learning environment for our students and staff,” says Lambie.

The district shared its updated reconnecting plans with the Board of Education on February 16, 2021, and will continue to communicate transition plans with parents and families.
